Decks are easy to make but it’s something else to make them pop.
These days, you can easily design a deck on a variety of different platforms such as Google, Canva, Adobe, etc. If you don’t have time or don’t have a pinch of creativity in your soul, you can download a template from just about anywhere.
Or if you want something a little more customized, then it’s not difficult to find a designer on a place like Fiverr who’ll whip something out for under $500.
So there’s no excuse why you shouldn’t have a deck.
And you need a deck.
Whether it’s a first call pitch meeting, an employee event, a VIP investor meeting, a fundraising event, gearing up for an IPO, or a global summit, you need a deck at some point regardless of the type of business or entity.
The purpose of these decks is entirely marketing. Even if it’s for an internal meeting, the goal is to achieve buy-in. So these decks must communicate not only effectively, but persuasively and impactfully. If you need another adverb, I would also add memorably.
One way to make these decks memorable and really pop is to integrate movement. Here are some ideas:
Animated Slides
Even a PowerPoint animation is better than a static slide. And we don’t want to overdo it where it becomes a distraction, but adding some animation that makes sense will not only make your slide deck more interesting, but it will also better communicate concepts and ideas.
For example, if your product will streamline a traditionally clunky process, then it benefits to have animation showing your product’s impact on that process.
Animated Videos
Videos should be part of presentation decks. They don’t have to be long. Even just a short 15 second clip can be integrated into your deck to augment a point.
Live Action Videos
This can vary depending on the purpose of the deck. Integrating a live action video into deck will definitely pique interest.
Many of these presentations can often drag on longer than they should. Audiences get bored.
Adding in a video at a critical point is a good way to regain their attention and deliver a knockout blow.
These videos can vary. They can be simple talking head interviews with customers or executives. Or they can be entire scenes with actors. Regardless of the scope of these videos, they provide an extra edge to your decks that will resonate with your audiences.
At the end of the day, the content of your decks is what matters. Your product must be good. Your brand needs to be solid. Your copy is got to be exquisite. All of these are first, so having a top-notch deck is definitely secondary, but it is important to have one that sells. And adding animation and video to your deck will definitely add to the entire package.
