Videos aren’t swag. Your marketing team can’t just send in a design and in a few days get your branded video in the mail. Unfortunately, with the advancements in AI and other tech, it’s starting to feel that way more or more, but there is still that creative and collaborative element that makes marketing videos stand out.
In order to make sure our clients’ videos are customized to voice their specific brand story, we take a highly collaborative approach no matter the type of video we’re working on.
Many steps in the collaborative journey are common sense, and there are a few that we learned from experience.
Here are the key areas in which we collaborate with our clients.
Initial Creative Process
As a creative video production company, we take the lead on the creative. We primarily come up with the ideas and advise our clients on what we feel would work best for their brand. But we involve our clients in the process. We present several different concepts during our pitch meetings and with client feedback, adjust the creative as needed. There are times, of course, where we recommend not doing something they suggest, but we want the video to reflect our clients’ service or product, and no one knows that better than our clients.
Revisions, Revisions, Revisions
We use various collaborative platforms including Google, Vimeo, Figma, Slack, etc, etc. Our team of editors and artists will make the correct choices, and we will work with our clients to enhance the final product. We don’t count the number of revisions within each cycle, and so we’ll keep working with the client to make sure they receive the video they absolutely love.
Communication
We don’t hold meetings just to have them, but we do speak to our clients regularly during a project. Our initial kickoff meeting sets the tone, and there are constant flow of communication. This may involve weekly meetings and/or Slack/text/email updates – whatever it takes to make sure there’s a clear and open line of communication throughout the production journey.
Budgets
When it comes to money, we make sure there are no surprises. We of course provide an estimate up front and everything is signed off before we start on our journey. If there’s ever a situation where we need to adjust the budget, we provide that information to our client and obtain their approval in writing before moving forward. With us, there is never a situation where the client sees the final invoice and says, “What the #%& is this?”
Overall, all of the above should be common sense, but we’ve worked with vendors and contractors who surprise us all the time and often shut us out from even asking for updates. That ultimately will lead to lost revenue, but also the final video itself will suffer.
