AI has significantly changed pricing structures in video production. We’re consistently incorporating new AI tools, which have a ripple effect on how shoots and post-production is done. This, in turn, affects pricing.
So, as we wrap up 2026 and charge into 2027, we’re excited to see the new developments in AI that will shift our video production industry in this new year. We’re also trying to figure out how that will change budgets.
For this article, we’ll focus on marketing videos for physical products. These are commercials, explainers, demos, and social spots for products that you can hold in your hands.
We will also focus on live-action videos rather than animated videos.
Before we get into a breakdown of the budgets, here are a couple key questions to consider.
What role will AI play in the production of product videos?
This is the big question when it comes to budgeting. As discussed in a previous article, AI can do some cool stuff with products and make it come to life. It still requires some trial and error, as well as, manual tweaking, but it’s very close to being able to do an entire product commercial on its own.
So would we ever shoot another product commercial? First of all, AI still isn’t perfect, especially with fine details and labels. These can all be fixed but when showcasing your product, you want it to be exact.
You may also want to shoot if there’s a lifestyle element or some other human connection you’re trying to make.
What level of production do you want to invest in?
Yes, pretty straightforward, but production value is still a key factor in budgeting.
What level of actors, locations, equipment, props, and/or special effects do you want to incorporate to elevate the quality of your video?
Often the most creative spots aren’t the most expensive, but a higher budget does allow ideas to take life in a more dynamic and enduring way.
Videos can be shot with iPhones with natural light, or with cinema-level cameras with a robust lighting system – ultimately, you’ll have a product video either way, but one will definitely have a more engaging and eye-catching visual than the other.
Pricing Tiers for Product Videos.
To break it down, here are some general pricing ranges based on different tiers.
All pricing is for a live action video with a running time of 60 seconds.
Tier 1
- Budget range: $500-1500
- Description: This includes heavy AI usage including all visuals, music and voiceover. Includes some minor manual adjustments.
Tier 2
- Budget range: $5000 to $10,000
- Description: Some AI usage including some visuals, music and voiceover. Includes a one-day live-action video shoot on a sound stage with a mirrorless 4K camera and one actor.
Tier 3
- Budget range: $15,000 to $20,000
- Description: Some AI usage including some visuals, music and voiceover. Includes a one-day live-action video shoot with a mirrorless 4K camera and up to five actors. Shot at one location.
Tier 4
- Budget range: $25,000 to $30,000
- Description: Some AI usage including some visuals, music and voiceover. Includes a two-day live-action video shoot with a mirrorless 4K camera and up to five actors. Shot at multiple locations.
Tier 5
- Budget range: $35,000 to $45,000
- Description: Some AI usage including some visuals, music and voiceover. Includes a one-day live-action video shoot with a cinema camera and up to five actors. Shot at one location.
There are of course variables to every project and pricing can fluctuate significantly, but hopefully, the tiers above will give you a general idea of how much product videos will cost to make.
