Video helps your SEO. It’s common knowledge at this point so this post won’t be discussing that in detail or presenting any metrics. But if you’re here for that, you can check out this post or this article.
This post will cover some of the things to consider to make your video more attractive for Search Engine Optimization.
Leverage keywords with your video to increase your SEO
Like all things SEO, you need keywords. Include them in your video’s title, description, and tags. Regardless of where you’re posting your videos, include a blurb with some irresistible keywords. And like all things SEO, you can’t “trick” the system so make sure the text is informative and useful.
When posting this video, we included keywords such as video production, explainer video, marketing and sales.
Use videos on social media to improve SEO
Many of our clients still forget about social media. They have our smashingly-produced video on their website and perhaps their YouTube channel – all good – but the video should also be on all social media platforms. Social platforms love videos because people love videos, which drive engagement, which helps SEO.
We often re-edit the main video to smaller bite-sized morsels for social consumption. This is a service we provide free of charge in most cases.
Also, remember to include captions, which is easy to do on most platforms.
Make sure your videos are engaging
As mentioned above, everyone loves videos. From a product overview on Amazon, to how-to videos on YouTube, to explainers on a startup’s website, people will watch a video rather than read some boring text (like blogs). So as much as possible, include a video to increase engagement, which leads to greater traffic, which results in SEO.
In general, search engines are designed to look for relevant content. They also want to present users with content that they will most likely view, and again, users love to watch videos. So including engaging videos with your brand will help your videos get indexed and increase your overall SEO.
Also, videos that are being watched – with higher engagement – will also get engines’ attention. It’s like the eye of Sauron; certain actions will get more attention (e.g. putting on a certain ring) than other actions. If something is getting a lot of love, it will give it more attention as well.
To that end, make sure you create engaging video content. It needs to be informative, fun, interesting, have production value, or all of the above.
Include an engaging title to the video – no need for click bait but it should have a strong hook in order to reel them in.
The thumbnail should also be eye-catching. Again, they don’t have to be sensational but relevant and interesting.
This explainer video for Brazen was posted by our client on YouTube, which brought in a million views.
These days you can easily create a video with your phone or generative AI so there’s no excuse not to include a video. Of course, if you need more engaging video content with better production value than something self or AI-produced, definitely contact a professional team.
