Video projects that shouldn’t be done with AI

Generative AI can turn a six-figure budget into a thousand bucks.  As discussed in a previous post, AI has already changed the video production industry and will continue to elicit gasps for years to come.

But as of now, there are still some things that AI shouldn’t replace.  Of course, considering the AI hyperdrive, this could change overnight, but for the time being, we still need to do a few things the old way.

Customer Testimonials and Case Studies

Yes, this can be done with AI.  All you need is a picture of your customer and AI will have him or her say glowing things about you.  But we highly discourage this, even if the customer is ok with it.

Ethical questions aside, testimonials are effective if they are genuine and authentic.  A scripted testimonial is less impactful than one where the client is freely speaking his or her own words.  A real client is more convincing than an actor.  Likewise, the use of AI to generate a personal or professional testimonial comes off as insincere.

For your testimonial to be impactful, feature real people saying real things in front of a camera.

Videos with Physical Products

As with above, a simple picture is enough to bring your product to life.  But it still takes quite a bit of effort to feature your item in the exact way you want.  Generative AI can do a simple Kickstarter or Amazon product video, but for something more elaborate, shooting is still a better option.

For example, if you have an innovative vacuum cleaner and you want to feature it in a specific setting doing a specific thing, it may take dozens of AI generations and even then, it may not feature your product in the best light.  In these situations, it’d be better to hire a video production company and just shoot it.

Corporate Communication

We don’t need to elaborate too much here, but basically, if you’re featuring your CEO or anyone in your company in a video, AI is not the best way to go.

Again, be genuine, especially when it comes to any sensitive topics.

Generative AI can do a lot and most likely, it will be used to some degree in all video productions.  As of now, there are still some uses for the old production methods.
