Hate to admit but I’m old enough to remember all the different search engines before Google took over. Remember Lycos, AltaVista, or Excite? Eventually we all came to realize that Google was it.
I feel that’s where we are with GenAI videos. There are so many in the market now and one big one that’s already gone (OpenAI Sora), but it feels like eventually one will rise to the top. Or perhaps one will trail behind for a bit like Yahoo’s search engine, but over time, there will be one that will become a verb.
GenAI video production is still relatively in its infancy, so we’re still testing out different models.
Here are a couple tests we did comparing Kling 3.0, Google VEO 3.1 and Ray 3.
GenAI Test #1: Cinematic Sci-Fi Action
For this first test, we went dramatic and wanted to test the imaginative powers of AI.
For both of our tests, we only ran one generation per model.
Prompt:
A futuristic warzone still smoldering from a bombardment. A young Asian woman in a worn-out and torn military uniform, walks slowly. She’s exhausted. She sees something moving in the distance. A drop ship entering the atmosphere.
Here are the results:
Kling 3.0
Pros:
- The entire scene is visually complex and detailed.
- The woman has the right facial expression and the futuristic body armor is a nice touch.
- The blocking is very dramatic – I love how she turns around to reveal the approaching spacecraft.
- Good sound effects.
Cons:
- The background and the ship look too animated, like something from a video game ten-plus years ago.
- The space ship’s exhaust trails are going in the wrong direction.
Kling 3.0 Grade: B+
Google VEO 3
Pros:
- The woman’s facial expression and overall look is OK. Again, the futuristic body armor is cool.
- The smoke is a touch nice.
Cons:
- The shot is boring. We want to see more of the environment.
- The warzone scene is ambiguous.
- The drop ship is boring and looks animated.
Google VEO 3 Grade: C
Ray 3
Pros:
- Very cinematic and the debris detail is amazing.
- The scene looks like a warzone and she has the thousand-yard stare.
- The uniform is more modern but realistic.
- At first, I found it awkward that she’s turning left when the ship is over her right shoulder. But this augments her disorientation, and it’s interesting how the camera moves to her right then down as she turns left and up.
Cons:
- The ship looks animated and is more like a mother ship than a drop ship.
- No audio.
Ray 3 Grade: A
GenAI Test #2: Truck Commercial
For the second test, we wanted to test each model’s physics and basically, whether or not it can generate a truck commercial.
Prompt:
A Ford pick up truck speeds down a mountain road overlooking the ocean. It flawlessly navigates tight turns and bends.
Results:
Kling 3.0
Pros:
- Overall, beautiful scene and though the driver seems like he had a few drinks, the physics are OK.
Cons:
- The shot could be more interesting showcasing the truck more. The camera is too far away from the truck.
- The road lines are not consistent.
Kling 3.0 Grade: B+
Google VEO 3:
Pros:
- Dramatic scene, interesting lighting and good camera angle.
Cons:
- Lots of quirky things going on that makes this unusable.
- The Ford logo is off.
Google VEO 3 Grade: F
Ray 3
Pros:
- Good physics and overall dramatic quality.
- The Ford logo looks good.
Cons:
- Not a big fan of the smoke trail.
- No generated audio.
Ray 3 Grade: A
Based on this unscientific experiment, the overall winner is Ray 3. We would definitely be able to use Ray 3 for some of our commercial and creative work here at Picturelab.
More tests and projects to come with GenAI so stay tuned.
