Even though Open AI’s Sora has sailed, generative AI continues to advance and is a powerful tool for creative content creation. There are already entire commercials and shows made with GenAI and it won’t be long before it takes a wider role considering the speed at which the technology is developing.
But what about for corporate videos?
Corporate videos can include a wide range of different types of videos, but here, we’re looking at talking head content with b-roll, and perhaps include motion graphics overlays and product animation.
GenAI can’t replace talking heads of real people…well, they can, but it’s not something we do or recommend. So for our clients’ testimonial, interview, event and announcement videos, we still do them with camera and lights. That part of it won’t go away anytime soon.
But we still use AI to help with our corporate projects. Here’s how.
B-roll
Generative AI is great for b-roll. It’s often inconsistent and there have been situations where we lost patience and settled for a stock clip, but for many generic situations, GenAI has sufficed.
GenAI is great in crafting a certain look, feel and action – something that may not be found even after hours of searching stock libraries. As GenAI improves, stock libraries will most likely phase out.
Here’s an example of GenAI b-roll clips we used for one of our corporate videos, which discussed physical AI and robotics.
B-roll Augmentation
We’ve also used GenAI to improve the b-roll footage we captured on set. For example, we shot a closeup of a phone but the graphics on the phone weren’t too exciting. So we used AI to improve the graphics. Previously, to do this we would have had to create the graphic with animation, which takes considerably longer to do than with GenAI.
Here’s an example of a customer testimonial video where we used AI to improve the b-roll quality.
Animation and Motion Graphics Overlays
Okay, so GenAI is not good for most animation or overlays on corporate videos. Mainly, GenAI is terrible with text and most overlays or product animation include text. There may be a situation where animation can be used to convey some general concept, but it’ll most likely require trial and error – more than allowable under the budget or timeline.
For graphics, we still need to manually create them.
Audio Mixing
We’ve also used GenAI tools to improve audio. Again, we avoid situations where we generate words for real people, but in some scenarios, we have used AI to augment or fix mistakes and flubs.
Over the past few years, we have produced dozens of different corporate videos from testimonials, to executive interviews, to online events. Though we still do much of it manually, AI has made some processes easier. As we continue to explore GenAI for our creative work, we have already embraced it for our corporate work as well.
